2026 is an election year, and the rules for enrolling to vote have changed. You can no longer enrol and vote on the same day – you now need to be enrolled, with your details up to date, at least 13 days before election day on 7 November.
Why this matters for students
If you have moved flats or campuses for study, your enrolled address may be out of date. Sorting it early means your vote is ready to go and you are voting in the right electorate.
What to do
- Check or update your enrolment at vote.nz – it takes a couple of minutes.
- Make sure your address matches where you are living now.
- Enrol at least 13 days before 7 November to be able to vote.
Your vote is your voice on the issues that affect students – from the cost of study to public transport. Get enrolled and have your say.
